About Amigo

We build AI that puts people first. Instead of just making organizations more efficient, we ensure AI systems actually help humans thrive.

We focus on healthcare because getting things right matters most in this field. Our technology provides organizations with confidence that their AI is functioning correctly before deployment. We use advanced testing and verification to make sure these systems are reliable enough for critical decisions.

We operate globally and follow strict regulations. We've raised $6.5M from investors, including General Catalyst and GSV Ventures. Our team comes from diverse backgrounds—tech, psychology, economics, healthcare, and policy—all working together to create AI that organizations can trust and that genuinely benefits people.

About this role

As a Research Scientist (Recursive Optimization) at Amigo, you'll lead the theoretical work that makes our production systems possible. You'll research recursive optimization approaches that solve real problems, publish your findings, and guide our research team's technical direction. Your work creates the scientific foundation that lets our deployed systems optimize for human outcomes rather than just efficiency metrics.

What you'll do

  • Conduct fundamental research on recursive optimization theory and human-centric optimization problems

  • Publish research in top-tier optimization and systems conferences and journals

  • Provide technical leadership and research direction across the research organization

  • Design theoretical frameworks for understanding and improving human-centric optimization systems

  • Collaborate with applied scientists and engineers to translate research into practical systems

  • Establish research collaborations with leading academic institutions

What we're looking for

  • PhD with focus on optimization, statistics, or computational methods

  • Strong publication record in top-tier optimization or systems conferences

  • Deep theoretical knowledge of optimization and computational systems

  • Track record of translating theoretical research into practical applications

  • Experience with research leadership and mentoring

Nice to have

  • Industry experience applying research to real-world problems

  • Healthcare or other domain expertise in human-centric systems

  • Experience with interdisciplinary research combining AI with other fields

  • Track record of successful research collaborations and partnerships

Benefits

Health & Wellness

  • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance

  • Mental health support and wellness coaching

  • Flexible wellness stipend for fitness, therapy, or personal growth

  • Daily catered lunch and dinner

Growth & Development

  • Annual learning budget for courses, books, or conferences

  • Conference attendance budget for professional development
